Four novel derivatives based on a triphenylamine core have been synthesized as the exciton blocking layer for OLEDs. The compounds showed the high triplet energies of 3.0 eV and high thermal stabilities. The best fabricated green device exhibited the maximum current, power, and external quantum efficiencies of 80.1 cd/A and 31.4 lm/w, 23.2%, respectively.
From the roll-off modeling of OLEDs, the exciton blocking layer much more inhibits the triplet-triplet annihilation than the triplet-polaron quenching effects at high current densities.
